Sunset Valley

The pool and the views were lovely, even though the area was quite dry during our visit. It’s a very quiet place that helps you slow down. We wanted an authentic experience, so we skipped the air conditioning, which costs extra. Surprisingly, that worked out fine because of how the houses are built. One odd thing: they don’t clean the room unless you stay more than 4 days. We were given 4 sachets of coffee when we arrived, but there were no refills. You can buy more at the handy self-service shop on site. We just felt a few basics could be included, even though it isn’t a traditional hotel.

The owners are friendly and helpful, and they keep a small honesty shop with everyday essentials. The property sits in a quiet spot in the middle of the island, overlooking rice fields with a great mountain view. It’s a convenient base for exploring, with drives of about 20km or less in most directions.

I came to Langkawi planning to explore, but ended up spending all 3 days at the resort because I liked it so much. I stayed in the gate house, which was just right for two. It’s set in a valley with a lovely view over a large paddy field. I enjoyed watching the sunset and stargazing. The people were friendly and great. You can buy instant noodles, homemade bread, other snacks, and wine there, so there’s no need to go out for supplies.

We had a great time in one of the lovely Sunset Valley Villas. It’s a quiet location and a good base for excursions. Gudrun and David were wonderful hosts, helped us with everything, and shared very good tips on trips and places to eat. We’ll be back!
