Al Huda Hotel

The customer service was excellent. When I reported that my AC wasn’t working, they changed my room right away and upgraded me from a normal to a deluxe room without charging extra. It’s in a good spot, with lots to do on foot, and the rooms are a normal size and fairly clean. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for a cheap hotel. Parking was the hard part. I visited on a public holiday and had trouble finding a space, with lots of traffic. Overall, a decent budget option.

You can walk to many places from this well located hotel, and the price is affordable. Parking is limited, though. The bed and pillows in my room weren’t very clean. The toilet was clean and had good water pressure, but the water heater didn’t work properly.

Booking online through Agoda or another site can make the price affordable, but the walk-in rate was very expensive for such a small room. At check-in, I was assigned the wrong one of the two rooms I’d booked on Agoda, even though I told the receptionist which room it was. That was their mistake, but they asked us to move in the middle of the night, saying someone else had booked our room. This was after a tiring day of sightseeing, and we were on the third floor with no lift. The whole room change was unpleasant, they lied to us, and nobody even apologized.

The location is the one good thing about this old building. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless it’s a last resort. I don’t know how it got such a high rating. RM160 felt far too much for a small, windowless, stuffy room where nothing seemed up to code. The staff were respectful, but the mildew smell and humid air made me sick. There were old, filthy mattresses in the corridors. The sheets, linens, mattress and pillows were thin and worn, and the air conditioner was very dusty. The atmosphere was awful, and the walls did little to block sound, so we could clearly hear children next door. There was no elevator, fridge, door latch, ventilation, kettle, iron, toothbrush, toothpaste or even a hanger. They provided only two bottles of mineral water, two plastic glasses, one tiny bar of soap and three shampoo sachets. The staircase handrails had come loose and were tied up with rope, which could be dangerous. Our room wasn’t ready until after 4 pm, so we waited in the car for hours. Roadside parking is limited and costs money from 0900-1700 every day except Monday and Tuesday.
