Collection O Melaka Near Dataran Pahlawan Formerly Ideals Hotel

The bed was okay, and the thick duvet was comfortable. The location is convenient for the city centre, with a lift in the hotel. My room had a hairdryer and kettle, while the Coway dispenser and ironing area were outside. We were charged for parking even though it was listed as free. The water pressure kept changing between strong and weak, and there was no minibar in our room despite the OTA listing one. The receptionist said some rooms had them, many weren’t working, and maintenance would be told about the water pressure. We needed the minibar for the chocolates we’d bought. There were no spoons for coffee or tea, either, and the slippers looked old.

The stay fell short of what I expected. The safe didn’t work when I checked in, the towels took several wipes to get dry, and the room felt stuffy because the window opener was missing. Finding the place was tricky too: the map still showed its old name, Ideals Hotel, and didn’t show “Collection O near Dataran”.

I’ve been staying at this hotel for many years, but the room was in really bad shape this time. On 31/1/26, I was in room 229. The TV and air conditioner remote wouldn’t work, and the bathroom was very dirty.

The building’s interior looked like it had deteriorated. Parking behind the next building was quite a walk, and at night I heard something moving and scratching around on the ceiling. I think it might have been a bird. At check-in, the lobby was dirty and there was no one at reception. A school girl on the sofa said the receptionist would be back shortly, and I waited about 10 minutes. When she arrived around 4.00 pm, she said the room might not be ready because there was only one housekeeper, but luckily it was ready when she checked. My room window was open. When I tried to shut it, the handle came off, and there were a few cigarette butts on the outside of the second-floor slab. That was a disappointing first impression.
