Hotel Mill Road

Traffic was clearly audible from my first-floor room facing the main road. I sleep through almost anything, so it didn't bother me, but you may want to keep the windows shut for privacy and to cut the noise. There are windows, though. For the price, the rooms are fairly spacious, clean and well cared for. I spotted a few sheet stains, but they weren't bad enough to put me off. The staff were friendly, and there’s a lift for wheelchair users, which helps since there are no rooms at ground or road level. In the shared hallway you'll find free drinking water to refill your bottles and an ironing board. It's a wallet-friendly stay, and you get what you pay for. The staff were excellent and the location was perfect, which makes this especially regrettable. After two nights here, I ended up with bed bug bites all over my upper thighs. They were bad enough that I had to get medical help from a chemist, and days later I still had welts and was treating them with medication. I’d spent 10 weeks travelling around Asia last year without any problems. Then, after just 8 days in Singapore and Malaysia, this happened. The bed bugs are why I’m writing this review.

The boss and lady boss were kind and hospitable, and the location was great. It felt comfortable and good value, with plenty in the room: a wardrobe, proper blackout curtains, filtered water dispenser, coffee and towels. I'd recommend it.

There’s a good amount of space for two or three people. The room has a water heater, TV, extension lead, big cupboard and balcony. The iron is kept outside because guests share it.
