Lavender Guesthouse - Hostel

I booked through Agoda.com after 10:00 pm on Jan-3, 2026, for a short rest before leaving early on Jan-4. At the hotel, no one answered either of the two numbers on the door or the doorbell, so I had to find somewhere else. When I called on the morning of Jan-4, they told me their policy is not to serve customers after 10:00 pm, even though rooms were available to book on Agoda.com. The hotel and Agoda.com gave no refund and didn’t reply further. I’m disappointed. Be aware, this might be a scam.

The hostel manager was really friendly. He chatted with us, taught us a Malaysian game, and even offered homemade cake. We stayed two nights, and the place was kept very clean. The communal area felt cosy, with a kitchen stocked with a microwave, toaster, hot and cold drinking water, fridge/freezer, and plenty of cups, plates, and cutlery. Tea and coffee were free throughout the day. The bed was comfortable, though there were only cold showers in the two shared bathrooms on each floor.

I ended up in hospital after staying here, with heatstroke and an IV by morning. The room had no air conditioning, and I spent the night sweating, getting at most an hour of sleep. I booked it for privacy, but had to sleep with the door open. Other rooms with air conditioning were doing the same because the heat and lack of airflow were so bad. The bathrooms were always dirty and full of ants, and there were ants on the room walls too. I woke with about a dozen huge insect bites. The owner was nice at first, but everything came down to money, and by the end I could tell he didn’t care about guests’ comfort or safety. The only option I was given for air conditioning was to pay triple. The cheap price wasn’t worth it. After going to hospital I left for another hostel, which was absolutely lovely. Please don’t stay here, there are plenty of better places in the city.

Everything was clean and well prepared. Some other guesthouses around here didn’t feel safe, and a few hostels had no customers at all. Don’t pick the cheaper ones, they may not be safe. There are only a few guests around on weekdays, so weekends may be a better time to visit. I recommend this guesthouse. The rooms are small, but fine for the price, and the customer service is super.
