Friendly people, music, and lots of good paintings give the place an easygoing, artsy feel. It’s simple, local accommodation in a great spot.

There’s art all over the place and a really lovely energy. It isn’t a luxury hostel, but they gave the three of us a four bed room, and the staff guy was very nice. There’s a kitchen, plus a smoking room with a sofa, fan, and a big window facing you. We made friends and had a jam in the evening. They even lend bikes for free. Highly recommend.

This is my response to the hostel’s reply. You said you were sorry about what happened to “this North African Arab guy,” but it came across as fake. You remembered I’m Algerian, yet forgot that the attacker was Malay. You suggested that the hotel, hospital, and police were bad while he was an innocent victim. I never called them bad; I described what happened. You said it “seems” that way, which means you aren’t sure. Where is your CCTV footage? This isn’t a hotel, it’s a dirty guest house with no security and no CCTV. You saw nothing, so you have no right to defend the hospital or police. Just defend yourself. You claimed to know my character, even though that was my first night there. Or do you mean you know the character of all North African Arabs? People differ, bro. You can’t call everyone bad or good. You also said most guests are backpackers or holidaymakers, “but not this species.” Again, it was my first night and you have nothing against me. If you do, show everyone what it is. You called countries “trouble countries.” Maybe you stopped your education at primary school or skipped history. Look it up and learn a bit. Hotels can’t avoid tourists, and I’d already paid online. You say he managed to check in at your place, but that isn’t my problem. You said even the police didn’t want to help me because of my behaviour. You’re trying to lie while sounding smart. You saw nothing of the investigation, and you had no proof for all your claims about my behaviour. Better to stay quiet. You’ve been there 14 years and have 62 reviews with a 3.4 star rating. Wow. Saying you’ve had a few bad experiences when “these people” come just shows how hateful you are. You should apologize for what happened in your terrible hostel, or at least keep silent. Saying hotels should be careful of these people is good advice. And don’t worry about your English, bro. It sounds like you’re trying to explain why the other guest attacked me. He was on drugs, and he wasn’t a guest. He used to stay there, since you have his pictures. You helped him hide. I’m not joking. A couple of months from now, you’ll pay for what happened, and next time you’ll learn how to treat an Algerian.

A year after what happened, I want to tell it again. I was sitting quietly on the reception sofa, planning to get a meal, and talking with a nice Chinese man from Penang. After he left, a strange looking guy came toward me, talking to himself and hiding a sword. I didn’t expect him to attack until he was right in front of me. I caught the sword with my hands, luckily, but I was stuck in the corner of the sofa. He pulled it away quickly. Before he could strike again, I ran, leaving my passport, phone, cards, money, and everything else behind. I was in shock and asked for help, but everyone ran away. I understand that. The ambulance took around an hour to arrive. While I was asking to be taken to hospital quickly, the person in charge started shouting at me. I wish I’d taken a Grab instead. It was completely unprofessional. At the hospital, I waited from 8 pm until 1 am, five hours, and they did nothing. They didn’t even clean the blood, as you can see in the first picture. They joked and laughed at me, and the doctor never came. I paid over 700 for the ambulance and X-ray, then asked to leave for a private hospital. They gave me neither proof of payment nor my X-ray results, even though I asked. It was so bad. They said there was no ambulance and told me to take a Grab myself. I couldn’t use either hand, as you can see from the low angle of my photo. The private hospital charged 285 RM and did a great job cleaning the injury, as shown in the second picture. I’m very thankful to them. They said they couldn’t do anything else until I filed a report. At the police station, making the report wasn’t as easy as I thought. They sent me to an investigator, so I took another Grab and waited again. The investigator shouted at me and checked my phone. I waited from 3 am to 5 am, then asked to leave because my injury smelled really bad. He kept yelling, telling me to sit down and not talk. Once he found nothing against me, I took my phone. I contacted the investigator later, but he said they had closed the report. I bought a plane ticket and had surgery, but it was too late. Now I can’t move my finger properly. Don’t book here. I don’t feel it’s safe at all.
