Malacca jonker house

I stayed for one night in June 2024, and it was a mixed experience. The location is really convenient: you open the door onto the road leading to Jonker and Riverside, both within a five-minute walk. The cleaner or caretaker was super friendly, and arrival and departure were quick and easy. The house had plenty of space, with a hall, two bedrooms, and a backyard with a kitchen and bathroom. The air conditioning was strong and cold. Cleanliness was poor, though. There was leftover food in the fridge, the bathroom was a little dirty and smelly, and I found a few hairs on the bed. The wood along the corridor looked old, rotten, and wet. There were also kids from another family renting the unit above us, jumping around and making the wooden floor creak nonstop, even late at night. I told the caretaker, who apologized and said she would pass the message along. She took the concern seriously, but the noise continued. I don't blame her since it was beyond her control. There were quite a lot of mosquitoes, though luckily they had left a bottle of mosquito spray for us. If affordability and easy access to everywhere matter most, this place could work. If cleanliness is your priority, it might not be for you.

The people managing the place were kind, helpful, and very prompt. When we had an air conditioning problem in our original unit, they moved us to the next one right away, without any hassle. They just told us to use it and handed over the key. The place is cute, but not luxurious at all. For a family travelling on a budget, it's decent and clean, and a good place to stay.

The only real plus was the location, though you have to put up with loud music whenever the trishaws pass. The apartment was filthy and unhygienic. The bedsheets and pillowcases hadn't been changed, the bedframes were dusty, and the floor was sticky. There was a dirty mop at the back of the unit, probably used on the floor. The fridge wasn't clean either. It smelled like the “Ghost of Tenants Past,” and there was a rat smell too. We heard them scurrying in the wall. The check-in person was rude and had poor guest relation skills. We got stuck in traffic and told her we wouldn't make the 3 pm check-in. She impatiently said we should have come earlier because the roads would close. The website says guests can share their arrival time and the necessary arrangements will be made, but that wasn't true. She said she'd be there between 6.30 pm-7 pm. We arrived around 5 pm and had a drink before going over. When we called at about 6.20 pm, she said she was on a break. We walked around and returned at 7 pm. After a couple of calls went unanswered, we called the owner. She arrived soon after, again rudely saying we were late and asking if we'd called her Boss. Of course we had, since we couldn't reach her. I wish we'd read the other review mentioning how dirty it was before booking. Never again. I wouldn't recommend this unless you don't mind rolling around in filth.

We checked in and then checked out because the living conditions were unacceptable. The place was dusty, dirty, and smelly, with mosquitoes everywhere. Bedsheets had hairs and live bugs, and there were bugs all over the walls and ceiling. The WiFi didn't work, and the bathroom and toilet felt unsafe to use. There was no hygiene and none of the basic essentials. They still asked for a RM 100 deposit. Avoid!
