Voyage Home and Guesthouse

The art in the rooms was something I appreciated, but this hostel wouldn't work for a long stay for anyone who cares even a little about hygiene or comfort. The location is its only saving grace, and it's the cheapest option near Jonker Street if that's what you're after. It's in an old heritage building that seems to be in disrepair. I don't think anyone cleans it, and the games and books I saw in the common area were packed away. There are too few bathrooms, none of the dispensers had shower gel, and even the washbasins had no soap. Beds are lined up in a long room with plywood dividers and no AC. I also saw a couple of broken wall sockets and lockers. The other guests seemed to be old, semi-naked white men. This place won't suit everyone.

A good place to stay, with a fan and a spacious living room. There are lots of books to read, and I could spend a whole week here.

The reception is at Layang Layang, where they serve free coffee and tea in the morning and sell beer. There’s another roomy common area there too. The receptionists were very helpful with getting around. They even helped me work out how to reach Port Dickinson, since there isn't a direct bus from Malaka. The hostel is right in the city centre, just steps from Malaka’s main attractions. The shared dorm was roomy with lots of beds, but not overcrowded. It was clean, with plenty of bathrooms and showers, and a spacious common area with a pool table.

The location was good, but this was one of the worst hostels of my trip. Don't trust the pictures, they were completely wrong. Three of the four showers didn't work, and the megaroom was dirty everywhere. Dust was right up to the bed, and tape was being used as a roof. I'm not expecting a five-star hotel, but someone really needs to clean this place up! Ahahahhahahahahahha
