Vspace Guesthouse & Cafe

There are two Google listings, Vspace and relish the moment cafe, both tied to the hostel. This is just about the cafe, where we stopped for food and drinks, and it turned out to be the best food decision of our day. We were starving, so no photos, but I remember getting spaghetti aglio olio, fish and chips, fresh juices, and a latte gula melaka. The aglio olio wasn’t traditional, but it was so good we didn’t mind. They were generous with the garlic, which suited our Indian taste buds. Fish was fresh under a crisp batter, with thick-cut crunchy chips, and the latte gula melaka was excellent too. The friendly, smiling, courteous staff made the visit even better. A good riverside cafe stop along the Malacca river walk.

We had an hour to wait for our Hahahusky slot, and it was raining, so we popped in for drinks and a few quick bites. The staff were friendly and suggested going upstairs for the scenery. The food and drinks were decent and nicely presented. A good place to stop.

The women at reception and in the cafe were welcoming and respectful, and I was happy with the other staff, the cleanliness, and the facilities. One man’s manner, though, left me disappointed. I extended my booking by two nights, one night plus one night, and when I told him I was checking out, just as a courtesy, he said I could leave without telling him. I understand they don’t require the key back, but a thanks and goodbye would have felt much kinder. His reply sounded really rude. He had also checked me in on my first day. I arrived around 1:40pm, while check-in was at 2pm. He took my ID, did the paperwork, and showed me around. The capsule bed was ready, and there was no access card or physical key needed to get to the room, but he still said he’d give me the room after 2 because they followed strict timing. Overall, I found his attitude bossy, rude, and insulting.

The food was pretty good, and we left brunch feeling very full. The staff were nice and even showed us the capsules, which the kids hadn’t seen before. The little cafe has a cosy nook feeling. We’ll try dessert on our next visit.
