Wifi worked well, and the location is handy for walking to both the ferry and bus station. The room was spacious, but it smelled musty. When I folded back the blanket, I found 5 myr, so I wasn’t sure it had been cleaned, though it looked okay. The bathroom wasn’t especially clean either, with used soap and other items left there. There was so much cleaning spray or disinfectant that I had to leave the door open for a while to air the room out. If you’re not picky, it’s fine for one night, but I won’t return because there are better places. 1948 History Bistro is a great pub nearby, up some stairs.

The smell was awful, a mix of freshly decorated walls and cigarette smoke, and there was no toilet paper. The staff weren’t friendly either. I know you can’t expect a five-star hotel at this price, but compared with other places at the same level nearby, this was the worst. They don’t seem to take their business seriously.

We paid SGD20 for one night, which was very affordable, and the hotel had Astro, a TV, and small towels for washing, though we didn’t use them. We only needed somewhere to sleep before catching the ferry the next morning. We arrived at 2am after a four-hour bus ride. The room smelled musty, as if ventilation was poor. The air-conditioning wasn’t cold enough, thin curtains let the streetlights through, and traffic could be heard through the poorly sealed windows. The toilet door handle was broken and the door wouldn’t lock.

The air-conditioning worked fairly well, and the toilet looked clean, but the room smelled really bad and noise from the crowd downstairs carried up. There were cockroaches on the bed and floor, and you can imagine where else I might have spotted one. While I was writing this, ants ran past me.
