Ano Hotel

The room had a damp, musty smell, and the carpet could really use an upgrade. Since I was pregnant, I especially appreciated that the bed and pillows were comfortable. The water heater worked fine, and we had unlimited Netflix movies and shows. Check-in went smoothly, but we only got one key, which was inconvenient since we needed the elevator access card to get to our floor. Parking is shared public parking, so remember to display a parking coupon to avoid a fine. You can request an iron at reception, but ours didn't work as expected. There was no breakfast. A budget stay with some handy features, though the carpet smell and poor iron let it down.

I booked two rooms through agoda, but the receptionist could only find one reservation. They gave me one room, which seemed to solve things, until I opened the door and found someone already sleeping there. I was shocked. It felt like they must have known the room was occupied, though I can't be sure. I went back to explain what happened, and they said they couldn't help, telling me to contact agoda's service center, which was difficult to reach and resolve things with. In the end I paid for another room, and it smelled strongly of cigarettes. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but I wouldn't really recommend the hotel. You can decide for yourself.

The staff were great, the hotel itself was great, and the amenities were enough for me. I paid RM324 for 4 days and 3 nights, if I remember right. Nothing needs improving. The smoking in the room was down to another guest ignoring the no-smoking sign. Five stars.

The location worked well, with plenty of places to eat nearby, and the service staff responded quickly to complaints. But the hotel itself wasn't a pleasant stay. The room was very small and narrow, and it wasn't maintained properly. Our towel was stained and torn, the shower head was worn out, and the TV wouldn't turn on. Parking was a major problem, especially if you're renting a car. The elevator was worse: several times people were stuck waiting because they couldn't press the button to go down. The sensor often didn't work, and I saw older guests take the stairs instead. Management should pay attention to this. A basic elevator would be better than something fancy that causes trouble.
