Golden Nasmir Hotel

I booked a family room but was given a different one. After they changed it, the new room smelled of cigarette smoke. The floor was dirty, and one of the mineral water bottles had already been opened. It wasn’t worth what I paid.

The building and amenities are old, and housekeeping could do better for a three-star hotel. Stained, old linens don’t bother me, but the bedside table and kettle were dusty and the mugs had stains. You can hear people in the next room coming and going, as well as cars and motorbikes on the road at night. If you’re sensitive to noise, keep that in mind.

Comfortable enough for a reasonable price. There’s a laundry and 24-hour stores right beside it.

I was ready to give one star, but they eventually dealt with my service request. I’ve been hopping between towns in Malaysia, and this was my third hotel so far, as well as the most expensive. It was also the worst, even though the earlier, cheaper hotels gave me better quality. I stayed three nights and didn’t try the hotel cafe. I paid extra for a room with a fridge, only to find an old, rusty one that smelled of mildew and didn’t work. I asked for a replacement the next morning, then had to ask again when it still hadn’t been changed. We lost our leftovers for the day. The room itself smelled musty too and looked like it needed renovation. We also found a small bug in the room, the first one we’d seen at any of the hotels. There didn’t seem to be more, but it was uncomfortable all the same. For sightseeing, the location is inconvenient since it’s not on Penang Island. There are cheaper and better options.
