Pearl View Hotel

The location made it easy to get around and explore, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It took me a little while to find the lobby, though. My room was in the older wing and showed some wear, but it was still well maintained. I could see the Penang Bridge from the window, a nice surprise, and the room itself was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple, with a small selection, which makes sense given the affordable room rate. I had a good stay and thought it was good value. I’d consider coming back.

At nearly RM250 a night for the Fajar Deluxe King room, all I got was disappointment. I’m embarrassed I booked this hotel for my colleagues. I’m writing this so nobody else makes my mistake. A sub-RM100 OYO could be better, and I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. The room smelled musty, the beds made us itch, the bathroom cleanliness was questionable, the chair had a disgusting stain, the bathtub drained terribly, and the wooden furniture was rotting. There were no toiletries. I called reception, then waited 20 minutes for a toothbrush and slippers. The A/C temperature control didn’t work, and the TV setup was among the worst I’ve seen in a while. Parking meant a dizzying drive up to level five. Reception was really slow. Breakfast had a horrible selection and tasted even worse. I’ve never had scrambled eggs like that.

The hotel is okay, the staff are friendly, and parking is on level 5. You can get the parking fee waived at the reception counter before heading out each time. The cheaper room has no window, but you can pay extra to upgrade to one with a window. The facilities are good.

My family and I stayed here for three days. The hotel is more than 20 years old, but it’s still nice and clean. There’s a market within walking distance with lots of food to choose from, and the Penang Bridge is nearby. The bathroom light isn’t bright enough, though, and the free Wi-Fi is awful and very laggy.
