Smile Hotel SS2 Petaling Jaya

I spent four nights here and was very happy with the cleanliness, the comfortable bed, and the sheets, which felt like they belonged in a five-star hotel. The location is great for food. There’s a wet market behind the hotel, reached by an alley, and 1 Utama is not far away. My Grab ride there in midmorning cost RM 6, though fares vary. Staff were always ready with a smile and a hello, including the cleaning team. They helped add an extra night to my booking and explained how I could save by booking through Expedia. Each floor also has a hot and cold water dispenser, a thoughtful touch for anyone who drinks a lot through the day. I needed an affordable place near my family where I could quarantine because of a virus, and it came to about USD$24 a night. As a very light sleeper, I was worried a shop lot hotel would be noisy. I chose a windowless room, which helped, though on the first night I heard screaming and laughter from a club behind the hotel at 4:30am. After that, I had no other noise issues, and overall it was quiet. A couple of small things could be improved. I couldn’t tell whether the black marks on the shower head were mold or rust, but they didn’t look good, and replacing the head would be an easy fix. There’s no lift, so carrying my 20kg suitcase and a smaller case up the stairs after arriving from the airport was hard. A staff member offered to help but was busy with other guests, and I managed on my own. That can’t be changed, but anyone with heavy luggage should bear it in mind and ask for a first-floor room. Parking may also be tricky in SS2, where many eateries and shops make spaces scarce. It wasn’t an issue for me. I enjoyed my stay, even though I was there for health reasons. Cleanliness and quiet were my two main needs, and both were met. The staff were great and the location was excellent. I’ve already mentioned the hotel to my siblings overseas for future stays.
