The garden is beautifully kept, and the whole place feels comfortable and relaxing in the cool mountain air. I especially enjoyed the hot dim sum at breakfast. The view is stunning, particularly early in the morning when clouds drift across the hills. Such a lovely place to recharge 🥰

I loved having breakfast in the cozy, unusual dome, with such a beautiful view. The room was tidy and clearly cared for, and the quiet setting gave me the “me time” I wanted. After my Mount Kinabalu hike, it was a great place to rest. Waking up to that amazing Mount Kinabalu scenery was a treat, and I’d happily return 🤩👍👍

The personal touches stood out, even small things like the panelled organiser beside the sink. Rooms are roomy and luxurious, with hot showers, room heaters for the cold nights, and two key cards, which is handy if one person stays in while the other goes out. They’re kept in very good shape, and the layout gives you privacy. The domed dining hall makes meals feel special, though breakfast is currently the only meal they provide. This feels more like a boutique resort hotel than a bed and breakfast. It’s quiet, with enough parking, and sits among highland greenery and well-kept gardens full of flowers. There are also medicinal herbs that the management may not know about. Sling and Stone has recently been refurbished and is under new management, which owns the property. We arrived while the last renovations in another block were nearly finished, so it should be close to pristine once all the work is complete. Some rooms have Mount Kinabalu views from their balconies. The property is at a high elevation in Kundasang, below the Kinabalu foothills. The road in is an 800 m unpaved but well-worn track, and you shouldn’t need to worry about getting stuck if you drive. Most guests have their own cars; visitors without one usually arrange a driver, and the resort can recommend one. On clear, moonless nights, you can see constellations, and early risers may spot climbers’ headlamps as they make their way up Kinabalu.

The breakfast dome is a real treat, with its glass walls and clear mountain views. We were served dim sum by the owner, and having hot coffee and food while looking out at the mountain was lovely. The place feels remote and peaceful, with a breathtaking view of Mt Kinabalu. Even tucked away in the mountains, it has modern hotel comforts: clean rooms and bathrooms, a smart TV with YouTube, solid Wi-Fi, good Digi reception, and working hot water. Highly recommended.
