Kingwood hotel

Room service delivery staff are the one bright spot. They're consistently courteous and friendly. The rest of the service crew range from fair to needing a slap in the face. As a regular, I keep coming back only because there aren't better choices elsewhere. It's sad that this is Sibu's best hotel, and I hope Kingwood's top brass read this and train the crew to be more hospitable. Also, RM12 for an extra 500ml bottle of water is ridiculous.

The standout meal for me was the glutinous rice stuffed in fried duck at Kingwood Hotel Sibu. The skin was crisp, the meat tender and flavourful, and the rice was savoury and aromatic, full of the duck's juices. You get crispy duck, succulent meat, and dense, umami-rich rice together. It's filling without being too much, and indulgent without going overboard. For the price, it feels like a memorable signature dish, not just a side attraction. The stay itself was also dependable and good value. My room was clean and properly maintained, with fresh bedding and a well-kept bathroom. It was functional and comfortable rather than luxurious, and didn't feel neglected or dated. For a short business or transit stay, the space, cleanliness, and reliability are more than you'd expect at this price. I'd rebook because it just works, without friction or surprises. A lot of dining options are just good enough, but this dish felt thoughtfully made and satisfying. The hotel quietly delivers more than you'd expect for what you pay.

The breakfast had probably the best variety and was the most up to standard among Sibu's other three-star hotels. Wi-Fi was decent, and the location is okay if you have a car. There's not much nearby otherwise. The rooms are very spacious for the price, with an internal 'balcony', but the lighting isn't enough. Curtains help in the morning, while at night the room gets really dark. The pillows were too soft and thin.

Good location and a nice room. The hotel was good overall, though some facilities still need improvement. Breakfast was just okay, not what I'd call a very good hotel buffet. Thanks.
