Hippo House Taiping

Our three little kids loved the connected room. It had enough towels, toiletries, and a hair dryer for our short stay. There's no TV, but that was totally fine.

The shared kitchen has plenty of cooking equipment for guests who want to make their own meals, and there's a water dispenser for refills. This is a great place for a short stay. The homestay feels like a home and is well cared for. You can tell the owner puts in a lot of effort to run it and make guests comfortable. Highly recommended!

We won't be coming back. Our room was next to another, separated only by an internal connecting door that had no soundproofing. When we politely asked the neighbouring guest to lower the noise, she got aggressive, shouted, banged on doors, and called the police. We were made to apologise, our passports were photographed, and we felt threatened and unprotected as foreign guests. There were no staff around, and we couldn't sleep. The hotel later said its security cameras confirmed the other guest had behaved inappropriately, but by then the damage was done. We wouldn't recommend this hotel.

We had an unsafe, sleepless night. There was no reception staff, the walls were paper-thin, and security was nonexistent. Around 11pm, the guest next door started shouting during quiet hours. When we asked her to stop, she went on a rampage and kicked our door. She called the police too, and as foreigners we felt intimidated into apologising. The shouting carried on past 3am, with no sleep and no help. Proper staff could have prevented this disaster. Stay away.
