Hotel Furama Taiping

At 31 Jalan Peng Loong in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia, the Taiping Furama Hotel is an inexpensive place that seems to offer more than its price suggests. Rooms are often described as spacious and clean, and the location is especially handy: Taiping Lake Gardens is just behind the hotel, while Zoo Taiping & Night Safari is a short walk or drive away. Jalan Kota, with its eateries, shops, and coffee spots, is close too. Nearby choices include Prima Taiping for seafood porridge or Hokkien noodles, as well as Restoran Mr BBQ and Dragon Phoenix. Food is one of the area's strong points. One possible nuisance is loud music from a nearby food court, which usually stops by 11 PM. There are 68 rooms on several floors, from Standard and Superior to Deluxe and Family options. The decor feels old-fashioned, with dated Chinese touches and souvenirs crowding the lobby, but guests can be pleasantly surprised by the rooms. They're said to be large, clean, and comfortable, with air conditioning and free WiFi, although some people have trouble connecting. Beds come as a king or twins, and the simple rooms use beige with aqua or peach accents. There's a small library on the top floor, water coolers around the hotel, and free parking in front or in a shady area across the street. Feedback is mostly favorable, though there are some concerns. Tripadvisor places it fifth among 29 hotels in Taiping, with a 4/5 score from 65 reviews. Guests appreciate the value, location, clean rooms, and friendly staff. Housekeeping has been praised for being helpful, and the Lake Gardens and Telegraph Museum, 0.4 km away, are convenient to reach. On the other hand, one guest was furious about a privacy breach in 2021, when a receptionist gave their receipt with personal details to a friend without permission. Others mention hard beds and disturbances, including fireworks during Hari Raya. Check-in may also take a while when the hotel is busy. For a short, no-frills visit focused on getting out and exploring Taiping, it seems like a decent choice for the cost. It's not luxury and the service may have rough spots, but the location makes it easy to get around. Expect possible noise and check that the WiFi works for you.

The bed had gone soft with age, but the five-star service made up for it. It's a vintage hotel, keep it up!

My family and I had a really enjoyable, convenient stay and made some lovely memories. The aunty, uncle, and receptionist were all friendly.
