Kimal Hotel Taiping

The hotel's in the city centre, which is good. But there isn't an elevator, there's a smoking smell everywhere, and the air conditioning has mold. There are four reserved parking spots in front, but the marked spaces are too small for a large car or SUV, so it can spill into the next spot. If you use an unreserved space, expect to pay 0.60 per hour from 8am.

The room, bedsheet and towel were all old, and the shower was broken. Staff told us to park in front of the hotel, but we ended up getting fined for parking in a restricted area. The service was poor.

I don't agree with all the good reviews. This is a very basic budget hotel. My room was small, the towels were hard, rough and yellowish, just like the floor towel, and the air conditioning wasn't cold at all. The room isn't soundproof, so I could hear knocking from upstairs, and the Wi-Fi didn't work. For one night, it was very basic. At the same price I could get a better boutique hotel in Georgetown. The male receptionist also seemed to be away in the toilet a lot. You have to walk upstairs, which is difficult with luggage. There are four free yellow parking spaces.

I booked at the last minute and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel was. It's straightforward, and you get what you pay for. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful, and the room was fairly spacious. Cleanliness was the main thing for me. Parking is right outside, though spaces are limited. I'd stay again if I'm back in this part of town.
