Golden Lodge

At Golden Lodge in Cameron Highlands, the location was fine and the room was somewhat acceptable. I paid the deposit and local tax at check-in, but nobody told me about the Tourism Tax then. It came up later, and when I raised the issue, I was told I'd already been informed, which wasn't true. I don't object to legitimate charges, but guests, especially foreign guests, should be told clearly. Being blamed instead of having the matter explained was disappointing. Clearer communication at check-in could have prevented this.

The dorm is away from the main road, so it was quiet and I slept better than at the budget hostels by the road. It's very clean, and there's a sheltered roof where I could park my motorcycle without worrying about my gear getting wet. There's also a place to hang wet clothes, which is great in CH's cold, rainy weather. Laundry isn't provided, though. The self-service laundry is at the mall outside and costs RM8. The water heater sometimes doesn't work, possibly because of low pressure?

There's a pleasant open space to relax, and the room has both air conditioning and a fan. It was roomy enough for three adults and a child, with a pantry for simple cooking. I'd recommend it to small families or groups.

For a short staycation, this 2 star-hotel worked well for me. The toilet was good and the pantry was moderate. There was a little mold on the ceiling, which isn't good for people with allergies, and I hope management deals with it. Apart from that, it was good.
