Marco Polo feels like an old-school hotel, and it recently changed management, so naturally customers have high expectations. The breakfast was surprisingly decent: I had Nasi Goreng cooked with butter, Sabahan-style mee goreng and toast. It was really cosy. The toiletries reminded me of growing up with Lux beauty bar, the room met hygiene standards, and the air conditioning was super cool. The housekeepers were polite and had genuine smiles, which is rare nowadays. Employees at every level greeted guests, which is the essence of hospitality. The lounge karaoke was great too. My daughters enjoyed singing with the designated band, who were also super friendly. The carpet may need constant cleaning, which could be hectic, unless they replace it a bit at a time. Water pressure is also needed on the high floors. Thanks, Marco Polo. The staff’s smiling faces are worth it. Keep it up. I haven’t been to a hospitality outlet where employees are trained to smile every time they meet a guest, and that was superb. A simple smile can take away the burden of driving all the way from KK to Tawau!

I’m staying at your hotel now and want to report several problems in my room. There’s no TV, the room is moldy and smells unpleasant, the carpet is wet from an air-conditioner leak, and the hot water isn’t working properly. I had to deal with maintenance until 3am, and even then the hot water only came through at very low pressure. This has been extremely frustrating. If everything isn’t fully fixed today, I’ll have to move to another hotel, and I’m asking you to start a refund for the inconvenience.
This place brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. Its architecture and decor feel distinctive and tell a story, so it’s a great spot for people who appreciate history and classic design. It does need more upkeep, though. Regular maintenance and some modernization would improve guests’ comfort while preserving its charm. It’s a lovely place.
The working air conditioning and hot shower earned it one star each from me. Everything else made for an uncomfortable stay. The hotel smells very old and badly needs a fresh look. The carpet and fabric sofas reeked of stale sweat, and airing the room didn’t help. The odor had even got into the bed. I slept in a face mask, wondering whether the bed linen was fresh. The hotel may have a long history, but that shouldn’t mean it has to be shabby and smelly.
The room didn’t have facial tissues or a TV, and the carpet smelled bad. The light in the room was very dim, and I wasn’t satisfied with the facilities.
