Shibumi Lodge

We booked House 5 at Shibumi for seven days, but it turned out not to work for our family with three children under six. We’d emailed about our family situation beforehand. We were able to stay in another Shibumi house for the first four days, but for the last three we were told we had to move to House 5 because the others were occupied. To us, House 5 wasn’t really a house, just three separate rooms, so it wasn’t acceptable and we decided to leave. I suggested paying for six days, which meant paying for two nights when we wouldn’t be staying at Shibumi. The owners, Bart and Hantie, said it was entirely our responsibility. I feel the host should look after guests in a situation like this, especially since we’d explained we had three young kids and House 5 wasn’t an option for us. The discussion turned horrible. Bart threatened us, saying, “let's see what happen if you don't pay the 7 days”. He parked his car in front of ours and started working around our car with three other guys. He was shouting and threatening, my kids got upset, and people passing by stopped to look. It was impossible to have a normal, reasonable discussion. It was an absolutely horrible experience. I’ve never had anything like this before and hope I never do again.

The food at the restaurant was beautifully prepared and delicious, and our room was cleaned every day. The staff were friendly and always helpful. Thanks to Belinda and Bill for a great time. We had the best holiday ever.
