The room was small, but clean, with a mosquito net and fast WiFi. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food tasted good. The view of the Katembe fridge is especially beautiful at night. Parking felt safe, with a protection officer there 24/7.

I was shocked by the standard and had a dismal stay. The old, worn furniture was broken, and the fridge freezer was switched off, rusty, and filthy. Its freezer door wouldn't close, so all my frozen food thawed and got warm, just before I had a whole day of driving. There was a musty smell downstairs, the balcony sliding door was broken, and the upstairs toilet wouldn't flush. They left a bucket for flushing it by hand. The lounge had no power. The oven was full of dirty, unwashed food trays, with roaches inside. There were no drinking glasses in the room, and the shower had no hot water. Upstairs, the hand shower wouldn't extend, so I had to sit down to use it. I'm disgusted. This is the worst place I've ever spent a night.

The views over Maputo Bay are breathtaking, and The Catembe Gallery Hotel brings comfort and elegance together beautifully. Rooms have their own character and are spacious and stylish, from the sea-front chalets to the luxury suites with private jacuzzis. The Marisol Restaurant serves some of the best fresh prawns you'll ever taste, and the pier's cocktail bar is a lovely place for a sunset drink. There's plenty to do, too, with a pool, tropical garden, spa, and kayaking. The staff are warm, professional, and attentive, making the place feel both exclusive and welcoming. A wonderful spot for relaxation, luxury, and authentic Mozambican charm. Absolutely 5 stars, well deserved.

I keep choosing this charming, authentic hotel by the beach when I visit Maputo. The sea breeze from the bed, with my own pillow, is hard to beat, and the view is beautiful. But the place needs care: the rooms feel a bit grubby and need a deep clean, the basins have no plugs, and the spa bath in the chalet I like needs maintenance. Still a gem, just in need of some TLC.

We had a wonderful nine nights, with lovely views, good food, and helpful service from every single person. We’ve got a special place in our hearts for the people there. A small fridge and a spot for tea or coffee in the rooms would be nice. We’ll be back!
