The hosts are incredibly kind, enthusiastic locals, and I enjoyed every chat with them. They helped us arrange activities and cab drivers, and shared tips for getting around. Our room was tidy and very clean, the service was exceptional, and the egg and cereal breakfast options went down a treat.

The guesthouse blamed an innocent guest for a payment problem and made them pay the full amount twice. That was disgusting and unprofessional. I’d never advise anyone to stay there. I booked two nights for someone else at Marumadi Planeta Mocambique through Agoda Travel Agency, which advertises the guest house online with its room details, directions, and location. I paid by credit card and got a booking confirmation; the charge appeared on my card. As with other online card bookings, the card details had to be accepted before the reservation could be made. The guest, who had travelled all the way from South Africa, arrived with the booking details and was told it hadn’t been paid for. Instead of contacting me, the person who made the booking, or the agency, the hostess pressed the guest for payment information. We ended up paying the total twice, once by credit card, which they said they hadn’t received, and again by EFT, which they suddenly did receive. Either the travel agent took the money and has my card details, or the guesthouse took my card details and money. The guesthouse should have looked into where the payment went; that wasn’t the guest’s responsibility. A booking confirmation meant payment had gone through using information supplied by the guesthouse.

Vanize and her husband are wonderful hosts, and they were very helpful. Their daughter Daisy cooks well too. Dinner was great and good value. The accommodation is excellent value for money in maputo.
