Canyon Roadhouse Campsite

The staff were incredible, and the pool was excellent. The shared campsite still gives you plenty of private space, and its toilets are spacious, plentiful, and very clean, with hot showers. The location among the hills is fantastic. We saw jackals at night, and oryx and ostriches along the way. Bring your own chairs and table. There’s almost no shade apart from the tree, and if it rains, you’re exposed. The shop is quirky too.

We liked the campsite, the very clean bathrooms, and the warm, friendly reception staff. If you’re into classic cars, there’s plenty to enjoy here, and we’d recommend it as a stop. We did have a problem at the fuel station. It’s valuable and convenient to have one in such a remote area, but this was the only refueling issue in our 20-plus days driving around Namibia. We paid by credit card, and the attendant charged about N$700 more than the actual amount. We were taking photos and putting water in the radiator, so we didn’t notice the card machine total at the time. We caught it the next day when we checked the liters against the numbers. We can’t tell whether it was a mistake or intentional. The amount wasn’t huge, but do double-check the total before paying.

We got two punctures yesterday, and Christian and the team at Canon Roadhouse helped us out. They’re so friendly and helpful. It’s also a lovely spot for a drink, with vintage vehicles to look at, a garden, and shaded parking. The menu looked good as well. Highly recommended.

After visiting Fish River Canyon, we stopped in to have a look at the vintage cars. It was busy, but still a nice place to check out. They also have plenty of items for sale and meals available if you’re interested.
