The garden is lovely, and the house itself is spacious and very clean. Our room and bathroom were comfortable, and the bed and pillows were great. The host welcomed us, made a delicious dinner, and looked after us so thoughtfully. The dogs were friendly and well behaved too. We had such a joyful, unforgettable stay and would happily recommend this place.

Herman is a wonderful person and a great cook. We’ve become friends over the years, so I can’t pretend this is an objective review. For me, there’s nowhere else to stay in Grootfontein!

We’ve travelled through 117 countries as a couple, and we’ve never had an experience quite like this. It’s hard to put the hospitality into words, and we really felt it. This stay is as much about the person hosting you as the accommodation itself. If you’re passing through town on your own, you have to experience it.

This place felt like a warm home to return to, clean and charming, with high ceilings and a lovely open feel. I’m fussy about cleanliness, and it met my expectations. We’d also looked at another place in town, but it didn’t come close for comfort, warmth, or space. The photos in the other Google reviews don’t really capture it. Herman was gentle and gracious, and made us feel welcome from the start. He brought us tea and coffee when we arrived at night and again in the morning, and was available by phone if we needed anything. He saw us off warmly when we left. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We were sorry to leave after such a welcoming stay. Herman was attentive and helpful with all our needs, and went out of his way to share his childhood home with us. The garden was lush and green, and the dogs were so friendly that it felt like home away from home. It was a perfect stopover. We left refreshed and ready to camp again. Highly recommend HH820.
