Hotel Deutsches Haus

Service was friendly, but we waited ages and had to keep getting the staff’s attention. They really weren’t attentive and could use some training. The food was a mixed bag. The lamb chops were okay, though the fries weren’t great. My pork cordon bleu tasted nice when I got some cheese with it, but the meat was very dry and didn’t taste good. The pork rib special was the worst, not tasty at all. A really disappointing lunch. I won’t be back.

The gulasch soup was superb, and both the fish and meat were excellent. Such a wonderful restaurant, with warm, friendly service.

The bathroom was unpleasant too, with hair all over the floor and a damp smell. Maybe the extractor fan wasn’t working, or the cleaning staff weren’t using products that get rid of odors. I stayed a week ago in an upstairs room, away from reception, and was very disappointed by the deep, old, unpleasant smell in the room. It made me wonder whether the hotel does deep cleaning.

The location is great, and I really enjoyed the hotel’s local character. The front desk staff were extremely attentive. At breakfast, Grinville paid impeccable attention, bringing eggs made to order and refilling drinks. Tecla, Joanna, and Charlene also gave great service. The walk-in shower, toiletries, comfy beds, heating, and international TV stations were all great. One big issue is the access to rooms 25, 26, 27, and 28. You have to leave the hotel, walk about 30 feet over tiles that get slippery when wet, then climb 20 slippery steps with no elevator. The area is quite outside; it caused us no problems, though it might not feel safe for everyone. Pigeons fly around and leave droppings on the steps and outside walkway.
