Minen Hotel

The restaurant was the bright spot for us at Minen Hotel. Our waiter gave excellent service, dinner was pleasant, the food was satisfactory, and the coffee at breakfast was very good. But breakfast had a reheated-looking waffle, small flies around and on some of the food, and mold on the cheese. We didn't feel the stay was worth the money. The reception staff lacked warmth and professionalism, and we had several problems with the rooms. We booked a standard room but were handed a key without directions, so we had to find it ourselves. The air conditioner was old and far from the bed, there were no tea or coffee supplies, just one towel, rust in the bathroom, and only one working overhead light. The water came in a 2L plastic bottle that appeared to have been refilled and wasn't sealed. That raised serious hygiene and safety concerns. When I asked for another room, the receptionist said we'd have to pay extra. We were shown a pool-view room and left there without further help. It had the same kind of unsealed bottle, so I bought sealed water myself. I also had to ask for another towel and for tea and coffee supplies. I hope management takes these comments seriously and improves the maintenance and hygiene.

We stayed just one night after visiting Etosha, and the room was fine, with a fridge and a door opening straight onto the garden. The swimming pool looked very inviting. We enjoyed a few beers in the lovely garden, and both dinner and breakfast were really good.

Thank you, Max and your team. The staff made our stay memorable, and it was great to see an establishment that takes upkeep seriously. Dinner and breakfast were the best we had on our trip. A real gem in Tsumeb.

Minen Hotel has the best customer service of the restaurants in Tsumeb, in my experience. The staff are well trained and know what they're doing, treating people with kindness, respect, and attention. At Kupferquelle, by comparison, some of the young staff seem not to care about customers, especially if you're a person of colour. You may get better treatment if you're not. The food at Minen is standard, and its quality hasn't slipped. The bar is always clean and has a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel has been around for years, so don't expect modern infrastructure, but the best staff keep it well maintained. Keep it up.
