Lagoon Lodge

You can watch flamingoes feeding in the water across the road in the morning, and the location is lovely. The main house has a nice interior, and breakfast was okay, though the stay felt quite expensive. There aren't any nearby places to eat if you're on foot. We booked the family room for a couple of nights and had hoped to stay longer. The room was okay, but not really comfortable for two adults and two children: there were two single beds pushed together, a small child's bed, and a settee too short for an adult. It was also right by the door, where it felt very cold. During our stay, Walvis Bay had no electricity because of municipal maintenance. The lodge had no emergency lighting or other provisions, so we couldn't see or use anything in the room, and there was no warm water. They had a couple of heaters, but without power they were no help. The owner told us to use our phone lights, but our phones had already run out of battery. The woman said the place now belonged to Chinese owners and her hands were tied. I don't know whether that was an excuse or really the situation.

They have a strange idea of what cleaning means. The staff are sassy and always have the last word.

The sunsets and flamingos right across the road are beautiful, but our stay wasn't great. The management has changed, and customer service seems to have gone with it. The current management was outright rude, as if serving guests was a burden. Our group had no internet on the first day. When we needed it on checkout day, we were chased out of the lobby. Breakfast was okay, but asking for eggs with the hot breakfast got us a look.

We love this place. It's right on the edge of the lagoon, so the views just outside the door are amazing. The staff and owner were helpful and gave great service. It's one of the best accommodation services on the Namibian coast, and part of Walvis Bay's history.
