Le Méridien Ile des Pins

Getting around the island meant relying on taxis and shuttles, though the location itself is great for some things. I stayed two nights, and the experience was mixed, but on the loyalty islands it seems about as good as it gets. The room was spacious, and the lobby and restaurant made a strong first impression. The beach was a highlight, with free equipment including kayaks, SUPs, and bicycles, though there aren’t many bikes. Get one early if you want to explore by bike. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and you could order crepes or omelettes. More peeled fruit and proper barista coffee would have been nice. The restaurant was expensive, but going elsewhere costs too, and despite the supply limitations they must face, the menu was fairly broad. The rooms felt old, and the restroom and bathroom had no proper doors. There wasn’t soundproofing, though we didn’t hear our neighbors. One sheet was stained. We followed the procedure and asked for it to be changed, but it was still there the next night. We also asked for fresh towels, but the dirty ones were taken away and no replacements left. I emailed with questions about the stay and, even though I left yesterday, I’m still waiting for a reply.

The restaurant was the best part, with excellent food. The beach area was very well kept too. Our bungalows were roomy and laid out well, and they were clean, though the furniture and tiles looked a little old. The AC worked well without being too noisy. The gym is tiny, but fine for a short stay.

We travelled as a couple, and this was one of the best places I’ve stayed. The bay and the location are hard to beat. Reception, bar, and restaurant staff were amazing, and the chef went out of his way to make us a special meal for our dietary needs. It made for a wonderful culinary experience. The hotel lends snorkelling gear, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards for free. The natural pool is within walking distance, and it’s worth visiting mid-morning at low tide. There are also places nearby to go hiking. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The rooms were beautiful, and the natural pool was an easy walk away for snorkelling. There’s a lovely little community around the place. Dinner choices are limited, which makes sense since the hotel is fairly isolated, but I’d have liked a broader menu. Thomas, the restaurant waiter, had our meals memorized, worked hard on his English, and went above and beyond. Julien was also incredible as a source of information and as a front office manager. They both deserve a big thank you for such a lovely stay.
