Hôtel Ténéré

It tasted good, but the cutlery should have been cleaner and tidier, and the ambience needs improvement. They don’t seem to care about customers. This needs attention if they want repeat customers and to grow their customer base. All the best.

The rooms are a decent size and quiet, so it’s a relaxing place to stay. The staff are cooperative and helpful, and it’s a good hotel in what is probably the best location. Don’t expect authentic Indian food, but the local food is good enough. Wi-Fi could be better, though it isn’t poor.

I made friends among the hotel staff. There was a French-English language challenge, but the desire to socialize and interact got past it. The bar-man was a remarkable, friendly gentleman, and I’ll never forget the warm welcomes and encounters there. Hotel Tenere is about a 10 minute drive from Niamey’s prime center area, where most of the other hotels and government buildings are. Its old fittings and structure show that it’s an old building, which isn’t a problem at all. In fact, old buildings can be a great, unique experience. Still, Tenere has poor sanitation and unprofessional service. It needs an overhaul in customer service management, meal and activity scheduling, and building renovations. In the end, it became more memorable than anywhere else, perhaps because it was so far from mild, ordinary, or usual.

There’s a lovely, cosy four level hotel, including the ground floor, with accommodation, food, drinks, and other leisure activities. It’s on Niamey high street, just a 10-15 minute walk from the famous Grand Marche or Habu Beene, Niamey’s Central Market. Western Union and banking services are across the road, one street jump to the left. Swimming lovers will find one of the loveliest pools in the capital here.
