1 Oak Place

We were in the presidential suite, but there was no kettle, tea, plates, or cups at all. The fridge didn’t work, and rainwater came through the kitchen and flooded the living room. We also got trapped in the lift. There were blackouts during the night and again in the morning, and staff never apologized. The junior staff service was terrible. It was a sad, pathetic experience.

The receptionist was warm and welcoming, and the rooms felt homely, without people constantly moving about. The rooms are fine, and there are more expensive categories if you want an upgrade. Finding the place can be tricky since there’s no sign showing you’ve arrived, so rely on Google Maps. The online price didn’t match the listed one, but they offered a discount, lol.

There was mould in one room, so I moved to another, and later I spotted a cockroach. The good points were neat-looking rooms, nice air conditioning, and toothpaste. But there were plenty of problems: no internet, road noise from behind the hotel, and no water for a morning shower. The room phone didn’t work even after I complained, so I had to leave the room to call room service, and I had to ask for a towel when water was available. I also had to complain to get the bathroom light fixed. The TV kept showing adverts, and there was no remote to change the channel.

I chose the executive room because it was bigger than the cheaper standard one, and I liked the view. When I ordered drinks, room service was quick. The rooms are set away from the stairs, with a door that shuts out stairway noise, which is handy if you want quiet. The entrance has a nice green carpet, and the reception area is pleasant. Staff were friendly and ready to help. There’s a restaurant, the lifts work, and the staircase can fit plenty of people. Parking is roomy, though it could fill up when the hotel is busy. It’s easy to find and sits in a very quiet area.
