The Grosvenor Suite

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We were treated terribly during our two days there, and the room was dirty. The receptionist and security guard shouted at and harassed us. When I tried to go and sit by the pool, the receptionist and guard pushed me, and later we were held against our will. At check-in, the receptionist seemed friendly and offered a discount straight away. The next morning, in front of her superiors, she changed what she’d said. I thought it was odd but let it go. On the second night, the AC stopped working for nine hours. Nobody came to repair it. The porter just switched it on and off. My guest and I stayed awake all night in the heat, and I called three more times to complain. I’d already asked more than four times for a towel and tissue and never got them. The room intercom hadn’t worked during my stay, so I had to call from my own phone. The electricity came back at 9am, so we went to sleep. We woke after 11am with only two hours of sleep and started getting ready to leave. The receptionist knocked a second time and saw me in my towel. I said I was getting ready, thinking she’d understand since I’d been calling from midnight until after 5am about the heat. We rushed out and reached reception at 12:52, less than an hour after the scheduled checkout. They then demanded N25,000, half the N50,000 room rate we’d paid for the previous two days. Hotels around town at this price are much cleaner, with trained staff and better hospitality. Staying here was a mistake.

Apart from the peaceful setting and nice atmosphere, meals were a letdown. They completely forgot my breakfast, and some dishes seemed to be on the menu only. There was no Alfredo pasta or akara with Papa. When I asked about yam, they asked if I wanted it, and there was no grilled fish that evening.

It’s a great location, and the pool area isn’t too crowded. I hung out there and would recommend it to friends for a small get-together or party. The fried rice and salad were great, but the pepper sauce for the gizzard and catfish was bitter, and the catfish wasn’t cooked properly.

The hotel has a good ambience and the rooms aren’t bad, but poor management could ruin it. My last day was terrible because the generator was faulty. I kept wondering why a standard hotel hadn’t planned for a backup generator. The managers showed no empathy, and I had to give up my final night, which cost me money and benefited them.
