Elegant Hotel by Best Western Plus

I spent three nights here and was counting down until I could leave. The hotel has plenty of space, but upkeep is badly lacking. My room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest left, and the toilet was filthy when I checked in. The sheets weren’t changed, and after a long day I came back to find no toiletries. The fridge didn’t work either, and breakfast was awful. When I reported that the shower knob was stuck, the maintenance man asked if I didn’t go to the gym, as though turning it required special strength. Some staff were indifferent, and their manner was very unprofessional. Nothing about the stay felt right.

The place seemed to open before it was ready. We arrived on December 22 for a stay in the newly opened “luxury” apartments, and even though we were the first people to use our suite, several things were dirty or out of order. The air conditioning in my room stayed broken for days despite repeated calls. Shower water often wouldn’t change temperature, the kitchen leaked for a day, and the elevator only started working on January 11, the day before I wrote this. We kept needing maintenance help, but there seemed to be only one person handling those calls. I mostly saw the same two people doing room service, so it felt understaffed. The washer shook loudly and crept several inches across the floor. Power went out multiple times a day; the WiFi was slow, unavailable in some parts, and down altogether for several days. We also saw cockroaches several times on the third floor. It felt like the opening had been rushed to cash in on holiday travelers. I found the experience insulting, and the owner’s greed disgusting.

I won't be coming back. The food took 1 hour and 53 minutes to arrive, and when I needed a towel, it took half an hour after I called on the intercom. I finally went downstairs and angrily confronted the receptionist. The room smelled stuffy, the towel I got was stained and off-white, and the toilet paper was locally made. There wasn’t a TV remote, so you had to use the buttons on the set or call a porter to bring one. The hand-washing pipe leaked underneath, too. I even opened the menu and found two little cockroaches inside. Best Western Enugu needs a complete overhaul.
