Tribu Hotel

The worst part of the stay was a food safety scare involving my daughter’s serious allergies. I ordered plain white rice and stew, making clear that she could only have plain rice. The dish arrived with carrots and other vegetables mixed in, so I sent it back. When the replacement took a long time, I went downstairs and a waiter told me, “The chef is picking out the vegetables from the rice.” I went into the kitchen and saw the chef removing them by hand, with no utensils and no clear sign of handwashing. It looked like the same rice was being prepared to send back to my child. That was an alarming risk, especially with allergies, and could have caused a medical emergency. The room problems were another major issue. I had to move four times because of different faults: air conditioning that didn’t cool, units leaking water into the room, a broken television, and a dead intercom phone. The manager and front desk staff were polite and apologetic, and seemed to be trying to help, but their good attitude couldn’t make up for the poor maintenance and broken amenities. At one point the whole process felt like a scavenger hunt. With the repeated room changes, leaking AC, and what I saw in the kitchen, I can’t recommend this hotel, particularly for families or anyone who needs food allergies taken seriously. The staff tried, but the hotel felt unprepared and poorly maintained. I’ll never stay here again.

The pool and skybar are lovely, and the decor all through the hotel looks great. It’s a really nice place to look at. The staff were kind, but they didn’t seem well trained. When our room flooded in the middle of the night from a shower drainage problem, they didn’t know how to handle it. They moved us to a hot room with no AC and so many mosquitoes that I asked to sleep back in the flooded room. They let us, then called the next morning to ask if we wanted to extend. Absolutely not. I won’t stay again. There were plenty of practical problems too. The fridge barely got cold and had no freezer section, the AC leaked constantly and soaked my backpack, and the Wi-Fi worked on and off. There’s coffee left in the room each day, but no kettle. A lot of the restaurant menu wasn’t available. I couldn’t even get a glass of champagne, and the bartender wouldn’t make a mimosa despite having the ingredients.

The hotel was clean and peaceful, and the food was so good. I loved the spicy spaghetti with croaker fish. The workers were lovely and polite, especially charity and the black guy who’s a porter. I’ve forgotten his name. Please keep up the good work.

I stayed three nights during the NBA AGC, at a hotel in Thinkers Corner. It’s a fairly new place and the facilities, including the recreational areas, were up and running. Even with a university nearby, the surroundings were quiet. Getting there was awkward since it’s outside the city centre. Breakfast was disappointing, both in the food’s quality and range and in how the restaurant was arranged. The in-room drinks also didn’t feel up to the hotel’s standard.
