The Haven Apartments

The rooms are neat and spacious, and there’s a pool and bar where you can relax. They also offer laundry service. The place is easy to find on the map, inside a well secured estate. Breakfast isn’t served as part of the stay, so you have to pay for it.

The one-bedroom apartment had a pleasant feel, but the stay was let down by maintenance and service. We had booking problems from the first day, and parking seemed poorly arranged, with little priority for guests staying there. There was mold on the POP ceiling, the shower glass was dirty, and replacement blankets smelled damp. We were also told they don’t provide extra blankets, which was inconvenient. The kitchen AC leaked condensation and made a mess, while the bedroom unit never worked properly despite several attempts to fix it. Water from the living room AC collected by the outdoor seating and attracted mosquitoes. There’s a noticeable gap between the glowing guest reviews and what we experienced. I’d advise people to think twice until the service, upkeep, and communication improve.

The power and AC worked around the clock, which made a huge difference during our visit to Nigeria. My husband, who’s a native, was feeling the heat and wanted both, so I appreciated having that comfort. The place felt close to American standards compared with what I’d seen so far. We spent about four days here in a duplex, with plenty of room and a simple, modern design that felt warm and relaxing. The photos were accurate, and it was clean and safe. I had a couple of small issues, but management and staff sorted them out right away. A few paint touch-ups might help with ordinary wear, though that’s just my American perspective. It already seemed above typical standards. I didn’t use the pool, but the area was there and looked like the pictures. It could probably use more frequent cleaning because of the environmental elements. The surroundings were still peaceful and laid-back. Some nights I could hear music from the lounge on my balcony, and it was a vibe without being too loud or busy. There are a lot of amenities we didn’t get around to using. Next time I’d like to try the food I’ve heard so much about. Thanks to the staff and management for making my first trip to Nigeria comfortable, safe, and memorable. I’d stay again.

The building looks beautiful, but that was about the only good part of our stay. We got back at 3 am and found there was no running water. Reception said they were working on it when I called, and gave the same answer again at 8 am. By noon, and even later, we still had no water. The receptionist seemed unconcerned downstairs, while the manager kept making assurances by phone and never showed up. We hadn’t been able to bathe, brush our teeth, or use water for over nine hours, yet the receptionist suggested checkout would still be at the usual time. They eventually brought a tanker, but its hose wasn’t long enough, so it left. Nobody thought to collect water from it. When we suggested doing that, staff went next door and brought water in mop buckets. That’s not a workable way for guests to bathe. Emergencies happen, but the handling of this one showed a serious lack of planning.
