People nearby told me my experience wasn’t unusual, and that Elim has become a shadow of what it used to be. I ended up checking out and moving to a better hotel in Rayfield, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I had a room on the third floor in one of the renovated blocks. They seemed to have tried to make it cozy, but the furniture was cheap and there were no TV channels to watch. The mattress sank under my weight. Water pressure was very poor, and the supply often stopped completely at busy times. The duvet and sheets were dirty, and there were public hairs left in the bathroom from previous clients. The lounge chairs were smudged and looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. I understand Elim was once a good hotel, but sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. They need to do better.

Take your own towel if you stay here. I asked for one throughout my three days and three nights, but never got it. Maybe they thought I didn’t deserve one because I booked one of the cheapest rooms. As an ajala de traveller, I’m used to being prepared, so I improvised and got by. Perhaps God was keeping me from catching something that might affect my skin.

The property has a big structure, spacious rooms, plenty of places to sit outside, and a cool, chill atmosphere. There’s also a club with good sound. But they cut the power at 10 a.m., even though the surrounding area still had electricity. I wanted to use my laptop, and they said there was nothing they could do because the power had to be turned off to avoid the electricity charges. Hmmmmmm.
