Amber Residence Ikoyi

During my stay of several nights, I was bitten by lots of mosquitoes by the second day. I told them, and they said they’d spray, but the second night was just as bad, like sleeping outside under a bridge. I told the manager and he laughed. He came by later and moved me to another room, but there were mosquitoes there too. I ended up in the hospital afterwards. One of my team members was also kicked out during work hours because they said they’d had an unexpected booking. Maybe they did the math and saw they could make more money from the new booking. That delayed our project. Another team member ate cucumber and started purging. There was no protein at breakfast. If you ask me, you’d be better off sleeping under a bridge.

The rooms were clean and nice, and the location was amazing, but my stay from Christmas eve was a letdown in a few ways. The promo promised a special Christmas breakfast, which turned out to be the worst breakfast a standard hotel should provide, with nothing special about it. Breakfast on the other days was even worse: the buffet selection was unappealing, so I ate elsewhere. They’d be better off offering ala carte so guests can order what they want. There was no laundry service at any point during my stay, which shocked me. I expected more, especially for Christmas, and hope they improve these services.

The staff were kind and helpful. I’d forgotten my cuff links, and when I asked about buying some, one of the gentlemen on duty offered his for me to use. I stayed one night, and the room was adequate with decent basic amenities. The courtyard-style parking area was massive, and the meals were tasty and fairly priced. I couldn’t find a water heater in our room, though I don’t know if that was a general issue or just a one-off. Amber makes me think of a serene ambience, and the highbrow Ikoyi neighborhood was quiet and restful. It’s easy to get to entertainment spots in Lekki, Ikoyi and Victoria Island. I’d recommend it if you want time away to relax, and hope to return for a longer stay.

Getting around from the location was easy, and I felt completely safe the whole time. The food was delicious, especially breakfast. Staff were very friendly and ready to help, and the welcome was warm. My room was spotless and comfortable, too. I had a fantastic stay at Amber Hotel in Lagos.
