De Rigg Place Victoria Island

I always think of De Rigg when I need a place to stay on the Island. It’s comfortable and feels safe, with friendly staff and good food. Try the jollof rice and afang soup. Walter Carrington Street, with several embassies including the German embassy and US embassy, is very close. It takes about 4 to 5 mins by car or 14 mins on foot to get to the embassy. MTN Internet was poor for me, though I got a better connection working from the fourth-floor rooftop. There’s WIFI and the hot shower is great. The bathroom sink water smelled chlorinated, so it seemed treated, but I never checked with staff. Please DON’T DRINK IT.

I returned because my stay about two years ago had much better service. This time, the decline in maintenance and service was hard to miss, even though the rooms were fairly okay overall. The first room had a faulty air conditioner, so I spent the whole night without proper cooling. I reported it the next day, but it took too long to address, and I had to escalate before they moved me. The second room had mould, which concerned me, and I had to complain again before another option was offered. The towels and sheets were badly faded and need replacing. Front desk staff weren’t very helpful, requests took a long time, and replies often felt defensive instead of focused on fixing things. I also had to remind them several times before I got my receipt and invoice.

For the price, the hotel is simple and offers good value. I was quite impressed. Highly recommend it.

The front desk staff were polite, courteous, and professional, and their hospitality stood out during my stay. The hotel also has good facilities and a comfortable general feel. There are still some things to improve. The complimentary Wi-Fi was out for more than six days, and the TV picture was unclear. CNN and Arise News weren’t properly set up, even after I complained more than once. It gave me the impression that management doesn’t keep a close eye on service quality. Some policies felt too rigid as well. I’d had lunch at work and wanted my meal reheated that evening, but they said I had to buy new food before they’d microwave it. That was disappointing. The place has potential, but service and flexibility need work.
