We picked Vertigo Hotel because it was handy for an early appointment at the US Embassy, and its location in VI worked well. At first we looked at The Blowfish, but it didn't feel right for us, so they offered an upgrade to Vertigo, their new partner hotel. A kind Asian lady on staff welcomed us and gave us complimentary breakfast for two, and we found the place clean with modern amenities. Still, the decor left me cold. Faux books on a shelf and a plastic plant outside felt off-putting, and the whole atmosphere seemed sterile and short on warmth or character. Even so, I'd consider coming back for the convenient location and clean facilities.

I made it through the two-night stay only because I was leaving Nigeria right after. The bed was very hard, the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied, and the TV wasn't smart, so there was no Netflix or YouTube. I also had to ask for fresh sheets after spotting a tiny bug and a few stains. On day two the AC began leaking, and shower water was leaking into the room too. Hot water lasted about five minutes before turning lukewarm. If I weren't in a rush, I would've checked out as soon as I checked in. If you care about where you stay, don't choose this place.

Peter deserves a special mention. I fell ill during my stay, and he and the rest of the staff went out of their way to help me get better. Everyone was really nice, far beyond what I expected, so I cancelled another reservation and added three days here instead of checking out today. The building has a casino on the 1st floor, a restaurant and bar on the 8th, and a rooftop nightclub. The Blowfish is just across the street, with restaurants, a pool, and a bar. With everything in the building, you don't really need to go out. If you can, call Vertigo directly to book, since that should get you the best rate. I'd say it meets “American standards” if that's a concern. They take cash and international cards, though change is given in naira at the current exchange rate. I'd recommend this hotel again and again. Thanks to everyone for looking after this American so well.
