The customer care was good, and the food wasn't bad either. The room itself was old, though not terrible. But the power situation made my five days there a bad experience. They shut off the generator in the morning and again in the afternoon, saying they were getting diesel, and then turned it off around 2am until morning. You couldn't sleep properly without power. If you need comfort and steady electricity, this isn't the place for you.

I really enjoyed my stay. The location was easy to find, and the grounds were well kept. The pool was clean, and the attendant there was polite and helpful. The rooms were lovely, and having constant hot water felt like a small miracle. The staff were welcoming and courteous, and the MD was especially pleasant to us at reception. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with business in that area.

The rooms are comfortable enough for sleeping, but staying here has been difficult. I've been here for three months, and the pool is still just an empty hole in the ground, with no repair attempt. The online photos don't show what the place is actually like. As international guests, it's also hard that there are no facilities for international card payments. Power is another ongoing problem. I have to go to the office and remind management to start the generator, and it can take about an hour and a half. They even switch it off while we're in the room, blaming batteries or the solenoid. I was told they'd do it “OK,” but it seems deliberate so they can conserve diesel. The Wi-Fi often doesn't work, and I'm constantly reporting it to management. Meals can take up to an hour and a half to arrive. We have to fight and beg for liquid milk for cereal or tea and coffee, and even sugar seems tightly rationed. They often don't have the ingredients for the meal you wanted, so you're left choosing from what's on hand, usually rice, semo, chicken, or fish. They didn't even have beef mince for spaghetti bolognese. After complaining, you might get it a week later, in a very small portion. The service at this so-called 4-star hotel, GRAN MELIA, needs a serious rethink. What's shown in the photos isn't what you get.

Having a free shuttle to Lagos Business School made getting around easy during my program there. The hotel itself was nice.
