I stayed in room 105 at Doncont Hotel, Yenagoa, and the experience was poor for the price. I checked in on October 16th to find the room hadn't been fully prepared and had no towels. The air conditioning unit was very old, though it did cool the room. I was told breakfast was complimentary. On October 17th, I ordered boiled yam with egg sauce from the restaurant and was asked to wait in my room. It took repeated calls for the food to arrive, and then they brought boiled plantain with egg sauce instead. They said they had run out of yam. The meal was cold, and the only cutlery was a table spoon and table knife, which didn't work well for it. I had to make do. I later asked reception for a towel. When no one responded, I went ahead and bathed, expecting it might arrive. There was no individual water heater in the bathroom, and the hot tap only gave lukewarm water. I had to call room service again afterward before they finally brought a towel. The next day, October 18th, I ordered an English breakfast that was meant to include toasted bread, an omelette, sausage, and coffee. There was no hot water for the coffee, so I asked the waiter, who went to get some. After another 10 minutes, I called the restaurant again. He returned with hot water and an electric kettle, poured some into a small tea cup, then started to take the kettle away. I stopped him. There was no spoon to stir my tea, so I had to use a knife. While I was trying to manage that, the waiter knocked again to take back the kettle. I was too tired to complain and let him take it. The repeated service problems, missing basics, and poor attention to detail made this poor value for the money.

The hotel is neat and comfortable, and the staff are polite and hardworking. Still, service is slow, and I think they're understaffed. Breakfast isn't ready by 6am, and many workers are still asleep, worn out from the previous day's work. Staff worship and room cleaning also make a lot of noise in the morning. Meals can take about two hours to arrive, and often there's no water, especially hot water. When I complained, staff brought a bucket of water. Every room should have a kettle for tea, so guests don't have to call the restaurant and wait a long time just to get a cup of hot water. The meals are small, with little variety, and nothing special compared with what's available from roadside sellers. Company-sponsored guests also aren't getting the entitlements they were promised, especially when they're away most of the day. The company pays, so guests should receive those benefits on time, not wait for months. It feels like an indirect way of telling them to forget about it. I don't think these problems come from a lack of money, experience, or resources. They seem to be down to negligence, and management could address them quickly if it chose to. Aside from all that, it's a nice hotel.

A cozy place to relax, with great service. It's a nice spot to be.

The hotel looks good inside and out, makes a nice place for pictures and relaxation, and I enjoyed playing table tennis here. But there's a lot that still needs work. Most of the staff don't seem friendly, and their faces look bored. Water often doesn't run, and sometimes there's no hot water for bathing. The food tastes okay, but it takes a while to arrive and the order may be wrong. The Wi-Fi is terrible, so make sure you have enough mobile data in case you stay here. I hope management takes this feedback into account.

The food is tasty, and the swimming and sports sessions are great. The security management deserves a thumbs up. But electricity isn't constant, which could damage guests' gadgets. Food arrives late, room service is delayed, and repairs aren't done on time.
