The Wave Hostel Corn Island

The view is amazing and the staff are friendly, but the rooms were mouldy and smelled bad. I couldn’t even go into my bathroom. Drinks and beer are way too expensive, too. The building is very old and needs investment if they want it to do well. The roof terrace is lovely for sunset, but there’s nowhere to properly relax, with only one hammock.

The view from the room was amazing, and the linens and towels were clean. Still, the place is rundown, and as others have said, the photos look better than it does in person. The staff were friendly and very hospitable, but there were too many bugs in the room. There was no soap or shampoo, and the WiFi didn’t reach our room.

The place needs better upkeep, and it didn’t look like the photos in real life. We first went to look at other accommodations before deciding whether to book. When we returned, the owner was impolite from the start and didn’t welcome us. He said the empty hostel had suddenly filled up with people who weren’t there. It left us feeling awful, and we couldn’t trust them after that.

The shared kitchen is excellent, with plenty of room to eat, relax, and chat with other travellers. As a woman travelling alone, I felt safe and secure, and appreciated how friendly and respectful the guests and staff were. Mimundo is right on the waterfront and close to everything you need. Sasha and Alvaro are welcoming and have great suggestions for things to see and do. I’d highly recommend staying here on Big Corn Island.
