We only meant to find somewhere to stay after arriving in El Castillo at night on the last lancha. Locals pointed us toward Hotel Victoria, and we ended up loving our three days there. The sisters made us feel right at home. They were sweet, funny, and incredibly helpful. Our double room was very comfortable, the bathroom had hot water, and the food was tasty. The river view from the terrace and hammock was gorgeous. Thanks so much, we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Breakfast had several good choices, and the hosts were incredibly friendly and always ready to help. We had a huge, comfortable bed in an extremely clean room, with a fridge, air conditioning, and a hot shower. The upstairs veranda and dining room both have great views of the castle and river. Best accommodation in el Castillo, highly recommend.

We liked it so much we added an extra night. The restaurant overlooking the river was beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and had hot water, and the hosts were the nicest. I loved reading on the upstairs patio and having meals there. Do yourself a favor and get the caramel flan with coffee. El Castillo is my favorite place in Nicaragua, a cute little town on the San Juan with no cars and friendly people.

Really nice people, a clean place, and amazing hammocks. Just be aware they can’t arrange boat reservations, and there’s no breakfast to go if you need an early start.

The verandas have amazing views, and breakfast is delicious when served overlooking the river. We spent three nights here for Christmas 2018 and had no complaints. The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the showers were hot. The owners and staff were incredibly generous and helpful, going above and beyond to arrange local tours, our next destination, and other things. I highly recommend Hotel Victoria.
