Best Western Las Mercedes Leon

It was right by the town square, with several shops and restaurants close by, and the price was very reasonable. Everyone was kind and accommodating. The room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and I felt safe leaving my belongings there since nothing was disturbed. I loved staying here, would come back, and recommend it to others.

The staff made our two weeks at Las Mercedes (Best Western) in Leon feel like a really enjoyable adventure. We'd stayed in plenty of hotels and Airbnbs while living our nomadic digital lifestyle, but this was the best trip we'd had so far. The same guards and front desk managers were there throughout our stay, and the hotel staff started to feel like friends. They always greeted us with a warm smile and an “Hola!” or “Buenos!” Many spoke English very well, and Odón's English is perfect. When someone wasn't as comfortable in English, we had fun practicing Spanish together, and someone who spoke English was always nearby if we needed help with something more important. Odón runs the hotel and was incredibly helpful with our requests. My friend and I are vegan, and I eat mostly raw vegan because I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease about a year earlier. I needed lots of fruit and vegetables, so being able to use the hotel fridge and borrow a knife was a huge help. Odón also suggested where to look for things like coconut oil. Someone at the front desk pointed us toward gyms and volcano boarding trips. They did my friend's laundry and helped me find somewhere to wash mine, since I'm particular about hot and cold water settings. We found the hotel exceptionally clean, thanks to the maids, who were lovely and had no problem coming back to clean when we slept late. The beds were super comfortable, the nights were quiet, and the AC worked really well and quietly. It took us a little while to get used to how quiet it was, haha. We met friends through Salsa classes, including Cafe con Leche classes via Facebook, where Fran is great, and on trips to the market. Rita sits by the front center opening during the day selling coconuts, coconut water, and the best mangos I've ever had. We were there during what was probably the hottest part of the year, in the last two weeks of April 2016, just before rainy season. We saw the first couple of storms before leaving. We'd originally booked another nearby place for about the same price, and the trip got off to a rocky start. Then we went to the Best Western, met Odón, and things improved tenfold. He showed us the rooms, helped check the internet speeds, which were the best in Leon, and explained the cleaning service, water, coffee, and free breakfast. We checked in early and checked out late. He even offered to help move our luggage for free. We declined because it felt like it could make things awkward at the place we were leaving, but the offer was incredible. Odón, the staff, and the hotel are a gem in the heart of Leon. I can't recommend them highly enough. Odón, the Amanda's miss you and your team. Restaurants, historic buildings, and the tour operators for volcanoes and hiking are all easy to reach on foot from this central spot near the Cathedral in Leon.

The location is great and the rooms are okay. Windows facing the corridor are a bit of a downside because they make the rooms feel less private.
