Hostel Sonati

The comfortable rooms have AC, fans, windows, and fairly comfortable beds. The shower was nice, the bathrooms are large, and there’s a small but nice pool with hammocks to lounge in. Parking didn’t go as expected. We were told there was space for our two motorbikes, but on arrival we were directed to leave them outside the gate at the main entrance, where people walking past could see and touch them. We weren’t happy with that. I’m not sure I’d call it a hostal, since there’s no shared kitchen. There’s only a small shelf in the lobby fridge that I think you can use for water or drinks. The AC in our room kept freezing up and had to be switched off to thaw; it needs cleaning and topping up with fluid. The bathrooms are oddly laid out, too: from the toilet you can see the bed through the door, and from the bed you can see your friends on the toilet, haha.

For $7 booked at the hostel, it’s hard to imagine finding a better deal. The room is spacious and does the job, with a fan for each bed. It was cleaned daily, including the bathroom in the dorm, which was nice. There’s free drinking water, and you can use the bottom of the fridge for food or drinks, but there’s no kitchen. And with León’s weather, yes, you need a pool. It’s lovely for a dip and a bit of relaxing. One of the guys at reception could smile a little more, but he was helpful.

The rooms were clean and a decent size, and the shared area by the pool is a nice place to hang out. The hostel is nice enough and the staff were okay, though the receptionist wasn’t very friendly. They wouldn’t take our cash because of a small rip in it. There’s a little fridge space with drinks for sale, and they might let you put groceries there.

After a long day of travel, I was extremely disappointed to arrive and find that only fan rooms were available, even though I’d booked specifically for AC. Nobody apologized or tried to sort it out then. The next day I had to pay extra to move into an AC room, even though that was what I’d reserved in the first place. It felt unfair and badly handled.
