Hotel Nicaraús Ometepe

The owner was really nice and even gave us a lift to the ferry. Staff were super friendly and speak English very well, handy if your Spanish isn’t great. Beers are cheap, the food is decent, and the pool is an okay size for the number of rooms. A few things could be better: the sun loungers, more tables with shade, and bathroom shelves.

The beds and A/C were decent, but the shower only trickled cold water. Cable TV was very fuzzy, with maybe five channels worth watching. We checked in at night and didn’t see the pool properly until morning. It was so full of algae that we didn’t want to go near it. We chose this place over staying in town because we wanted to relax by the pool for a few days. When we asked for a discount given its condition, they said no. For what we paid, it was way overpriced. Similar rooms in town cost a lot less, especially when the pool here was unusable.

The staff and service were amazing, and breakfast was included and delicious. We’d left a high-end place far away because the road there was extremely rough, and stayed here for one night instead. Clean, well located, and very reasonably priced. A great choice.

We stayed three nights at $60 a night, and the rooms weren’t clean or cleaned daily. There was barely any water from the tap, and the shower was cold. Locals used the pool and it was overcrowded, with just two pool loungers, both broken. Breakfast was one plate with a poached egg, toast, and rice and beans. One woman did everything, including cleaning and making breakfast, seven days a week. She was sweet, and we felt very sorry for her. An okay standard for Nicaragua, but definitely not at this price.
