Hotel Alcazar

A fantastic hotel right in the heart of town, with great breakfast, fantastic staff and stunning views from the rooms. Take the weekend music from nearby bars seriously. The hotel supplies ear plugs, and you need them for a good night’s sleep.

I found check-in extremely unprofessional and concerning. I spent a long time giving my personal details, including ID and payment information, to someone I was later told was the housekeeper, not reception staff. Nobody told me that at the time. Just before I had to leave to catch a bus, I was suddenly asked to redo the whole check-in and pay again. They didn’t clearly explain where my information had gone or why I had to submit it again. There are no security cameras at the property, so I can’t verify who had access to my information or what happened to it. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values their personal information or wants a smooth, reliable check-in.

My partner and I spent three wonderful weeks at Hotel Alcazar and made new friends. We lacked nothing. The welcome was warm from start to finish: Nelie and Alfred at reception were lovely and professional, while Nene and Elisabeth looked after us and our room like royalty. Our ocean-view room was beautiful, the pool surrounded by jungle was perfect for relaxing, and we enjoyed fresh, delicious breakfasts every morning. Everything was clean and safe, with a night security guard, and the staff really paid attention to guests’ needs. We were even surprised with an upgrade to one of the most beautiful rooms. Reception offers several activities for exploring outside San Juan del Sur. The hotel is ideally located, just 2 minutes from the beach and close to convenience stores and restaurants. We also booked an airport shuttle right through reception, which was super easy. I’d give more than 5 stars if I could. I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.

Horrible experience unless you want to sleep during the day and spend all night at the disco next door. Be careful not to return to the hotel before 04:00 a.m., or you won’t be able to sleep. Avoid at all costs.
