Hotel de Witte Dame

We were after somewhere peaceful to come back to in the evenings after exploring Amsterdam, and Witte Dame suited us well. It’s semi-rural, but still around 30 minutes from the city. A Dutch friend suggested it, and Abcoude itself is lovely. Else greeted us when we arrived and was incredibly welcoming. She helped the two kids in our group, who were abroad for the first time, feel at ease. Everyone on staff was great, with Else especially memorable. The hotel is beautiful and well equipped. There were a couple of small maintenance snags, like dead bulbs, but nothing serious. You can sometimes hear the nearby railway, though it didn’t bother us. We ate at the restaurant on our first night. Since we were a group of six, they asked us to take the set menu, which seemed a little strange to us. The food was phenomenal, and the service was excellent. I’d definitely stay here again.

Abcoude is a really nice town, and the hotel there was beautiful. We stayed with the whole family and would happily come back. The rooms were spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, the restaurant food was amazing, and the staff gave us top-notch service. For us, it was a ten out of ten.

I loved the food downstairs, it was delicious and worth stopping in for. My room also had a small kitchen area where I could make tea or coffee, which I always appreciate. It was large, open, and welcoming, with one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in. The place is very stylish and elegant, but the lighting could be more practical. There were lots of good-looking lamps, yet at night I could barely read a book because the room just wasn’t bright enough.

The little town is lovely, and the locals are friendly. Getting into Amsterdam is easy by train, with the station about a ten-minute walk from the hotel. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, and the beds are comfortable.
