Bar Restaurant Hofman

The Lobster Bitterballen were a great start, crisp outside and creamy inside, with loads of flavor. I followed them with the entrecôte, cooked just how I asked over the charcoal barbecue. It was juicy, tender, and smoky, and the baby carrots, asparagus, and garlic-roasted potatoes were just as good. We came in late on a wet, windy night, and Hofman Bar & Restaurant felt like a cozy place to settle in. The menu is a manageable size, with a thoughtful range of starters, mains, and desserts. Staff were warm and attentive without hovering, so the whole meal felt relaxed. I’d happily return, even if the weather’s stormy again.

You can relax at this lovely bar in the center of Alkmaar. It’s peaceful inside, the coffee and food are good, and the service is really friendly.

I’ve eaten here twice now and enjoyed it both times. For me, it’s the best restaurant in Alkmaar.

The service was good and the place has a gezellig feel, but the lunch portions are nowhere near enough for the price. We paid 15 euros each and were still really hungry afterward, so both of us had to get a sandwich to take home. This is getting out of hand price-wise. An English couple at the next table had the same complaint. You only get the meat you ordered, with no vegetables or anything alongside it, so every bite tastes the same. The small amount of food we did get on the semi lunch tasted good, though.
